The Art of Making an Origami Flower
Learning new things every day is always beneficial and today let’s learn the art of origami, a great way of releasing stress and tension from a day’s work. Origami is usually associated with the Japanese culture, which is the art of paper folding. The goal of origami is transforming a flat sheet square of paper into a beautifully finished sculpture by folding and sculpting. Origami principles are applied in packaging, stents, and other engineering applications. Origami’s basic folds can be combined in order to make detailed and intricate designs.
Almost any flat or laminar material can be used as a medium for origami, as long as it can hold a crease. “Kami” or origami paper is usually sold in prepackaged squares of different sizes ranging from 1 inch to 10 inches or more, and commonly colored on one area, and white on the other side. It makes a suitable for a wider range of designs because “kami” weighs slightly less than copy paper. For making waterbomb and crane, a normal copy paper can be used, whereas papers of heavier weight can be wet-folded, allowing a more rounded sculpting, becoming sturdy and rigid when dried. Origami have various types basing on techniques which include action origami, modular origami, wet-folding, pure land origami, origami tessellations, and kirigami. Origami flowers are beautiful and intricate, making a lovely gift for Valentine’s day, birthdays, Mother’s day, anniversary, and many more. To make a beautiful flower ball, kusudama flowers can be used, as well as a home decoration or an ornament masterpiece during the holiday season. Origami flowers may come as azalea, bell flower, dahlia, cornflower, cherry blossom, lotus, rose, sunflower, tulip, and more.
You’ll need a 6 by 6-inch sheet of paper when making flower petals. Turn the origami paper so it looks like a diamond, and fold the bottom half into a triangular shape horizontally, making sure to align the points before making a crease. Take the left point of the triangle with your triangle facing up, then folding it so the tip is aligned with the top triangle’s point, and repeat the same instructions with the right side of the triangle. Fold the left point of your original triangle diagonally, meeting the last crease you just made and unfolded, and do the same with the right triangle’s point. Now, with the two points of triangles, fold them backward over themselves, giving your two folds with serious creases, then unfolding them. The triangles’ left and right points are folded and towards the center, so you’ll have two funnel-like shapes which meet in the middle.
